January – September - 2007

Social Research
NAP+N Conducted Research on the needs of people living with HIV and AIDS on the knowledge of Sexual and Reproductive Health of people living with HIV and AIDS in partnership with FPAN and IPPF.

Advocacy

Regional Advocacy Plan: April-May
3 days advocacy training was provided to 25 PLHA leaders in each 4 regions. Regional Advocacy Plan was developed through the training. Supported by VSON

Protest against ABBOTT: May
NAP+N conducted a protest rally to allow compulsory licensing to Thailand on life saving medicines along with 250 PLHA against ABBOTT in front of US Embassy. Full Report>>>> / Photo>>>>>

International Drugs Day: June
Along with 20 PLHA organizations, begging program was organized in 33 sites of Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur valley, to support the Government of Nepal to provide drug users with clean syringe, methadone and ARV. National People Struggle Committee against HIV and AIDS (NPSCHA): May
NAP+N organized and supported 1st 2 days conference where 125 participants from various parts of the country representing, IDUs, MSM, Sex worker, Mother’s Group, Representative of children, NGO workers, Student Union Leaders, Journalist, Lawyers etc participated and formed NPSCHA which is struggling to have a seat in the constitution of Nepal.
NAP+N further supported to organize 1 day conference among the roles of Most at Risk Population (MARP) among the political parties in Pokhara. Full Report>>>> / Photo>>>>>

Sensitization to VSON Volunteers and partners: Ongoing
NAP+N is involved in series of meeting to sensitize VSON volunteers and partners on HIV and AIDS issues.

Advocacy Task Force (ATF) Ongoing
NAP+N formed ATF compromised of PLHA, organization working for the rights of PLHA, Media, Lawyers and students. ATF vigorously advocated for change in Health care settings focusing Teku Hospital. ATF organized a press meet in front of Ministry of Health and Population and submitted demands to Ministry of Health. Release press release and demands. ATF further protested in front of Teku Hospital and health Department for 1 month. 9 demands along with additional services where signed. Full Report>>>> / Photo>>>>>

BCC Materials – January- June
With the support of WHO and VSON, posters have been developed on HIV testing, ARV availability, OI treatment and PLHA rights.


Capacity Building

Development of Draft Strategic Plan: September
3 days residential workshop was conducted among 25 NAP+N staffs from 4 regions. A draft strategic plan was developed. Supported by VSON & FHI Nepal

TOT on Sexual Reproductive Health of people living with HIV and AIDS: September
5 days TOT on Sexual Reproductive Health of People Living with HIV and AIDS was provided among 20 participants from Kathmandu, Chitwan and Sunsari. Supported by IPPF

8 ICAAP - Srilanka: August
5 staffs of NAP+N received scholarship to attended 8th ICAAP held in Srilanka. 2 staffs orally presented their abstracts on Successful approach to mobilize PLHA.

HIV Implementers Conference- Rwanda: June
2 staff of NAP+N received scholarship to participate in a conference held in Rwanda.

Regional Advocacy Workshop: February
1 staff from NAP+N participated in the Regional Advocacy workshop in India- Supported by VSON

Monitoring and Evaluation Training: July
20 staffs of NAP+N received 3 days M&E training. Supported by VSON

Review of Organization Development: January
2 days review of OD was conducted among the NAP+N staff. Supported by VSON

Consensus Meeting: June
1 day consensus meeting with 34 participants was held by NAP+N with GFATM Support to PLHA partners. Supported by UNDP

Capacity Building of regional staffs:
8 staffs of NAP+N regional office received capacity building trainings on computer, report writing, Motivation skills etc.

Computer Training
7 women staffs of NAP+N received basic computer training.

Financial Management & Office Management training and mentoring - Ongoing
Along with FHI and 3 Organization Development NGOs, NAP+N members organization received TOT on Financial Management and Office Management to 30 PLHA CBOs staffs. Refresher courses were also received by the same participants. TOT receiver further provided training to members from PLHA CBOs.

Reporting and Financial Training
Challenge Fund and GFATM partner’s received training from NAP+N on project reporting and financial reporting for the purpose of the projects undertaken.

Community Home Based Care and Adherence Training – June-September
54 staffs and volunteers from 18 PLHA CBOs received 7 days CHBC training in coordination with 2 NGOs supported by UNDP.


1 staff of NAP+N received TOT on M&E organized by NCASC and UNAIDS.

2 staffs of NAP+N along with FPAN representative participated in SRH meeting held in Bangkok by IPPF.

24 Challenge Fund receivers who were implementing direct services to PLHA received CHBC training.


Resource Mobilization

Challenge Fund: February-October 2007
NAP+N supported to 44 PLHA CBOs in 26 districts of Nepal. The support ranged from $ 3000-6600 per CBO. Supported CBOs provided care and support packages to PLHA along with stigma and discrimination reduction activities.

NAP+N support to PLHA CBOs: May-Oct
NAP+N is supporting 17 PLHA CBOs in 6 districts of Nepal. The supported CBOs provided direct services to PLHA on Community Home Based Care.

Child Fun – September -Ongoing
NAP+N organized fundraising event to support children infected and affected by HIV and AIDS to support them for their education and treatment. The event raised NRS 350000. Full Report>>>> / Photo>>>>>

Treatment Fund - Ongoing
NAP+N supported 83 times to PLHA for their treatment directly through NAP+N.

Establishment of Resource Centre
NAP+N is in the process of establishing a resource center having information on HIV and AIDS for both national and international researchers.

Reconization Ceremony
28th Nov, 2007, NAP+N organized a reconization ceremony who had contributed to promote quality of life of PLHA through Health Care Settings and Media. 10 from Health background and 11 from Media background individuals were honoured for their long contribution in five regions of Nepal. Networking
NAP+N have been coordinating with NCASC, UNAIDS, UNDP, GTZ, FHI/ASHA on HIV and AIDS issues.

Representation:
National: NAC, NACC, CCM, DACC, ART Committee, Advocacy Champion, UNAIDS –APLF Advocacy panel and youth forum,
International: GNP+, APN+

Women Coordination Meeting - May
12 women leaders from various part of the country participated in discussion meeting on the need of women network. NAP+N supported the discussion.

APN+ representation
NAP+N representative was elected in APN+ Steering Committee member. Representative participated in series of Steering Committee meeting of APN+ along with capacity building training on M&E, Advocacy, Networking, TRIPS & FTA.

Regional Level:
Organized --district level meeting with PLHA.
ATF formed in Eastern, Western, Mid-western and Central region.

Sensitizing Students Unions Leaders: May
1 day sensitization was conducted to 30 student’s union leaders from 8 political parties on making HIV and AIDS a political issue. NAP+N
